Time to Vote!

Derry, Now is the time when you have the power of the ballot to make sure your voice is heard.
You have had a chance to see what the future politicians of our town want for the future. Who will best represent YOUR views on the council?

Remember this: It is a privilege given all of us. Many sacrifices have come for our right to vote and we must never forget those who sacrificed for us.

Voting will take less than 5 minutes of your time.

Lets surprise everyone and have a record turn-out.

Voting will be from 7am-8pm Tues March 11th

Dist 1 & 4 Vote at Hood Memorial School

Dist 2 & 3 Vote at West Running Brook school.

Update: As of 1pm we have very light turn-out. 700 votes combined. *** If you have not voted yet. Please make sure you vote before 8pm.

The Derry News just posted on their web site that they will be starting online election coverage at 3 p.m. and that they will be posting all the results on their web site as soon as they are announced.
Good luck to all the candidates. It's nice that there are such clearly defined choices this year.
And yes, a record turnout would be awesome!

GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!!!!!!

I cant believe with the vast amount of opinion and complaint in this town, that only 700 people have decided to get off their butts and vote today.

I voted. Did you???

If you didn't, perhaps you should reflect on why.

BC- Your comment on 4A in this mornings paper was especially stupid (and you have set a high bar to exceed.)

You are about to seat 2 new councilors (as you should) who each won with a minority of the vote. However the people need to vote overwhelmingly against 4A before you take it seriously?

Sometimes, when the press asks you a question, its better to think then answer.

Ok obviously you are a 4A Opponent. You believe that of 19,000 registered voters in Derry that 1200 people voted against 4A and 1100 people voted FOR 4A in a NON BINDING REFERENDUM vote. That it means the people of Derry don't want 4A. I said that it looks like it basically split down the middle.
The interesting thing is that the ADT group were distorting facts and pushing for the NO vote while the other side did not make mention of 4A at all. They need you in Washington as a "spin doctor".

didnt the guys who ran entirely on an anti-4a plank lose?

now there's the mandate.

BC; Sorry but again if 19000 registered voters are the denominator, you should demand that candidates who got less than a majority of those who voted and in some cases, what about 3% of the "registered voters"?, not be seated. You can't have it both ways. Either we follow the rules or not. The people have spoken on 4A but you will do what you are told to do.

As to the distorting of facts, you have been drinking Jack's cool aid. He now has at least three groupies on the council... here comes the DEDC with a vengeance.

anon 8:04,
Don't be confused here. First, you confuse the fact that top vote getters get the win and are elected. And a non binding vote on 4 A. Go back and listen to the tapes of when this question came up about putting 4A on a non-binding referendum. You will hear that the reasoning was "to gauge the public" as to their feelings on the subject. meaning it was not a contest but instead a gauge as to the publics feelings on the subject. Hence 1217 NO 1057 YES.
It IS what it IS. A very close and yes almost evenly divided question.
You can't spin this any differently. Don't try and lump together how we elect people and how we gauge their thoughts.

The majority voted no. You can say what you want (or what Jack want's you to say) it doesn't matter. You will ignor the vote and do what you want. To the victors go the spoils. You may pillage Derry for at least another year. Enjoy.

anon 10:25,
Ah last time I check I was the ONLY councilor who voted to NOT spend 225K on a bike path. Also did not vote on 225K for land piece. Just because your upset your side lost it all, doesn't mean you have to take it out on me.
I'm proud to bring an independant voice on the council. You want to peg me one way or another is your opinion. My priority has always been and will always be for the people of Derry. Some will not always agree with my votes and thats the way it goes. Can't please all the people all the time.

You are to be commended for those two votes. Thank you.

$225k + $225k savings = almost one Exit 4A EIS payment. I'd say those votes make you a net zero for the taxpayers. Better than some, worse than others.

I'd like to thank everyone who have put their trust in me for library trustee. A lot of hard work and generous donations have been put into the library over the years. I'll work intensely with the board at keeping it a great, safe place for Derry residents.

I'd also like to add that I was impressed with all the candidates running for all seats. I had the opportunity to meet most. They all were undeniably compassionate and warm hearted.

Overall, thanks for everyone that turned out to vote. As Brian mentioned, many sacrifices have been made for our right to vote. I'm witness to people turning out to vote after being threatened with sniper fire and other forms of retaliation. Voting is a strong, important right that we all have and should all exercise.

Thank you again. Feel free to contact me for anything. I'd like to hear some thoughts and ideas for our library.
