Bring on Big Box Stores!

The results of our on-line polling revealed that readers want the town to bring in Big Box stores into town. The poll results were up for 3 weeks and here's how the readers responded.

Q: Does Derry want Big Box Stores?

Yes votes=23

No Votes=15

Unsure=3

I believe we should bring some into town. We will never compete with the Salems, Nashuas, Manchesters in the retail business, however we should have some good cross mix of big box right here at home. Thanks to all the participated!

the people have spoken. Blogocracy forever... Oh that's not how it works?

"How annoying that they have to fight elections for their cause
The inconvenience--having to get a majority."

Has anyone noticed that both Hallmark Stores are closing? Yes! Why can't Derry keep a long established up scaled card shop?
It's very disheartening.

The Hallmark you talk about is going out of business along with three others in other towns. It's nothing that the town has or has not done that caused this to occur. Hallmark has been at that location for many many years. I'm sure something will be going in to take that great location.

That may be true Brian, but what about the items that they carried. Quality gift items, cards....Do I get my cards at Shaw's now? The only 'gift shop' left is the Country Cupboard.
Where do you go to by a hard coover book (in town)? No where. I go on line to Amazon because I don't want to travel all the way to Manchester... Store options are getting sparce. I even heard it mentioned that Blackberries 'may' move over to L'Derry. That would be a great loss.

anon 11:45,
I see what you are saying now. There is a book store in that little plaza across from Pizza Hut. Also i heard the blackberry rumor about a month back and heard another rumor that if that happens- the new Sabatino's italian resteraunt will be expanding. We also have lefties moving over into the downtown. So we have a mix of news for the downtown.
