40,000

Just wanted to thank the many visitors to Derry NH Politics Blog! It reached its 40,000 visitor mark a couple of days ago and its because of people like you it has found staying power.
There have been other blogs that have started and then have stopped for various reasons and I can tell you first hand that maintaining and keeping a blog going is not a very easy thing to do. I appreciate all the comments that come in and I post 99% of what you send ( the other 1 % I do not dare put in )and again would like to thank you for using these mediums.

If you have any ideas that may make improvements, please pass them along.

Thanks Again!

Brian, I just got my water and sewer bill on Jan 2. It is dated 23 Dec and on 24 Dec the interest rate kicks in. I am confused again. This is the 2nd water and sewer bill that has been mailed out wrong this year. The Tax bill had a mistake on it also. As a result the town had to do extra mail outs to explain the mistakes on the original bills. This will be the 3rd bill in 6 months that requires an explaination. I want to know how much it is costing the for these extra mail outs? Manhours, paper goods, ink and postage. Why does this continue to happen? Doesn't anyone proof read the format on the bills as a whole before they leave the Department? Who is ultimately responsible for this waste of taxpaper money? Three times in six months is totally unacceptable especially when we are looking at cuts backs within the town.

Who's running for what this year? What's open? What good, heated questions will be on the ballot?

Two Council seats are open. Dist #1 Fairbanks seat and a councilor at large Coyle seat is up. Filing periods to run are Jan 21st to Jan 30th.

For questions: It may be a charter commission being possibly established.

BC- Your number of views on this blog are down for the 4th month in a row.

(-5%, -8%, -9%, -20%)

I think people are tiring of your spin on events.

Will the last one out please turn off the blog?

I'm still here. And your reading the blog. God Bless America where if we don't like something, we don't have to tune in.

I do not always agree with BC but I like the fact that he has this blog.
The hits were probably down last month due to the blackout.

Brian, As predicted, I just got a letter from the Water and Sewer Dept. telling me about the obvious error on the most recent Water and Sewer Bill. Have you found any answers to the 1st post on the blog? Is there any accountability for these errors? Everyone makes mistakes but when it is a repeated COSTLY mistake it must be corrected and accounted for. Bottom line How much has it cost me the taxpaper for this 3rd mistake? And who will be held accountable? To make up the lost to the taxpaper the responsible party should get a 3 day suspension without pay.

I brought up this same issue when the property tax bills were sent out wrong and needed another letter mailed to correct the mistake. No other bloggers or BC had the courage to answer the question if someone was going to be held accountable for the mistake. So don't hold your breath to get any help from BC on this issue. It's seems to be acceptable for town employees to make the same mistakes over and over again without repercussions. The taxpayers of Derry have deep pockets, why bother. It's only a small amount. The rail trail money is more important than incompetence

The issue was in the tax collectors office and I am told has been straighten out. BTW the tax collector is retiring 7/1/09 and we will have a new person in place at that time.
