Poll Results

Last poll results are in:
Q: Is the downtown important for Derry's economic image?

Yes=32 votes

No=18 votes

Unsure=9 votes

Who cares=1 vote
According to the poll results it looks like Derry does want a clean vibrant and busy downtown. This is important to note that we want to make sure that as "outsiders" come into Derry-that we put the very best image out for them to see. Thanks for all who participated.

we sure do want our downtown biz district looking well cared for. now, town biz owners, pick a day each week take a few minutes (literally) to tend to the small space directly in front of your respective establishments. by so doing you may bump into an existing customer or even develop a new one, imiagine that! great question BC.

All this talk about business owners and improving the look of downtown.....It's happening. I see the improvements...My concern is of the Friendship Center.I don't see the Friendship Center joining in and help with their own appearance! Honestly. The downtown is shaping up nicely but then you get to that specific part of the street. I feel bad for the new resturant and ice cream shop that went in next/near them.Having all those bikes lined up out front, taking up needed park spaces and those people just standing out front hanging out watching the world go by.I know I wouldn't walk by that group to go for a meal or an ice cream around the corner....
We have two new businesses in that area. Let's help 'them' to be able to stay in business. Working with the Friendship Club and that landlord should be a goal of someone!!!!! Think about it!

I just now drove by there...there were at least 15 people just hanging around our there!

That's loitering folks!

Why would anyone shop near that crowd?!

The council apparently doesn't possess the wherewithal or leadership to address it - Where's the police!

I just drove by tonight (9pm) and guess what? The folks from the Friendship Center have spread over onto the doorway of Anthony's Cusina!Point made!!! Maybe the new resturant owner should think about a bright light in his doorway. This 'might' help. The police will only come when something wrong has been committed. Don't you know the law? It's a wait and see attitude and while we're waiting we'll watch yet another business leave Downtown Derry!Understand,I'm not wishing for this to happen. Let's HELP these new businesses so they will 'want' to stay in Derry.

Isn't "loitering" against the law?

Its popular political correctness to say what a wonderful job our policemen do, but there are just too many indications otherwise. A few examples of downtown issues were sighted in this blog and at last nights’ Council meeting. Heck, if we can't keep our downtown secure....

Mr. Houle gave ZERO indications of moral problems – like higher than norm employee turnover. What he did do was point the finger at management during contract negotiations with feeble examples of what he views as political incorrectness.

Mr. Houle has chosen to take the union negotiations public and made several snide, sarcastic and unprofessional comments. For example, he said that Dr. Moody “likes to be called Doctor”. Besides knowing what Dr. Moody likes or dislikes, what Mr. Houle chooses not to realize is what Dr. Moody likes to be called is not relevant. HE EARNED THE TITLE “DOCTOR” – that’s simply the way it is.

The snide and sarcasm obviously fits right into the modus oporandi of the Burtis-Coyle-Fairbanks-Rose-Dimmock-Thompson crowd.

The Council should break off negotiations until such time there is an understanding that it will not be conducted in public. Let’s hope that there remains 4 sane people on the Council who will enforce the Town Charter and allow the Administrator to administrate.

PS: It's reported in this mornings paper that Mr. Houle said the Council went into non-public session to talk about the moral fiction. If that was actually the content of the non-public, who is the leaker on the council, AKA union mole?

I'm not a Cop but I can only picture what they go through on a typical day. I saw in the Eagle Tribune that the head of the Patrolman's Union was turned away by the new Town Administrator because he doesn't meet with union officials outside of contract negotiations! Hasn't been on the job all that long and is already holier than thou. Way to go Gary, you should fit right in around here!

Actually I think that is great! No more 'side' conversations to help pave the way. Clear cut rules of negotiation- not holier than thou. No more going down to the DEDC headquarters at the Steak Depot and making side deals that we 'the residents' have to live with!

Since the DEDC is no longer taking funds from the town and are entirely a private organization, they get to cut any side deal with whomever they want, wherever they want and for whatever motive they want.

Any other position is a (sexual-like?) fantasy of those extreme against-everything wackos.

Don't be to fooled. He's a regular at the Depot Steak House. Why not. He can afford it on what we're paying him! Remember his quote in his first interview with the Nutfield News? 'What you see is what you get!'That was in large bold print! Now you can take that anyway you want to. I won't call it 'holier than thou', I would be more incline to call it arrogant!

Hmmm...."What you see is what you get"...

...normal people...people who don't think the world is out to get them....people whose first insinct is not cynically filled with conspiratorial thoughts...normal people would certainly describe that as "transparent".
